The Aiken County Historical Museum was established in Aiken, South Carolina, in 1968 by a group of local citizens. It is one of the oldest museums in Aiken and houses many artifacts from the county’s history. A museum is focusing on the history of Aiken and South Carolina. The local “Cotton Fields” campaign is also displayed with information regarding how fibers are grown, produced, and marketed throughout time beginning to present day; includes a cotton gin replica housed inside an original one-room schoolhouse built by black families after emancipation while still under the control of Reconstructionists following Civil War.
